EXPO2005
I am a Japanese citizen who lives
in Nagoya City in Aichi prefecture.
I have argued to not hold the Expo
in Aichi in 2005 because the proposal does not consider the environment.
Not only myself but also many people
and organizations around the world that are concerned with the environment
are also against it.
We have tried to stop the destruction
of nature caused by the EXPO.
However, the Ministry of International
Trade and Industry as well as the Aich politicians have kept supporting
the original proposal.
Instead, I strongly recommend an
EXPO that focuses on a network of environmental grassroots organizations.
I argue that we should not use the
KAISHO FOREST as the place where the EXPO will be held.
To achieve both points, I would
like to introduce some suggestions.
-
The Aichi EXPO should be for CITIZENS
but not for the Government. Therefore we would have the right to participate
in the planning process.
-
The Aichi EXPO should provide an opportunity
so that visitors have a chance to learn about the ecosystems that include
human beings.
-
The Aichi EXPO should use facilities
that already exist. We can have the EXPO in several locations and facilities.
This will enable us to avoid the destruction of nature.
-
The Aichi EXPO should take advantage
of the Internet and technology as much as possible. Virtual pavilions are
less harmful to the environment.
-
The Aichi EXPO should consider global
environmental issues.

these suggestions at http://www.lemon-island.com/P-field/expo.html

I have though about the Aichi EXPO for three years.
Since it is possible to have virtual
pavilions by using the Internet, many environmental groups all over the
world can be connected to one another at the Aich EXPO.
Moreover, using the Internet we
are able to include people who cannot visit Japan.
I really want to share my environmental
concerns with you.
Please consider my suggestions by

I really appreciate your consideration.
